Lewis Hamilton emerged as the winner of last year's race, his seventh of the 2014 season, to seize control of the Drivers' Championship - a lead he would not relinquish as he ultimately went on to secure his second world title. After beginning on pole, Hamilton took advantage of a frustrating day for closest rival and team-mate Nico Rosberg - the German was forced to start the race from the pit lane and eventually retired due to reliability issues.

The narrow street circuit has seen numerous crashes and bumps over the years; indeed the safety car has been deployed in each of the seven races held at the venue since it was introduced to the calendar in 2008.
