It is often said that less than five hundred people own half the private land in Scotland. Dougie visits the National Library of Scotland to meet Dr Annie Tindley – an expert on the history of land ownership.

Dougie visits the island of Mull to meet the people behind the North West Mull Community Woodland Company. The buyout has created nine new Woodland Crofts. One of them has been taken on by the Munro family who will benefit from having a secure lease.

The Duke of Buccleuch is Scotland’s largest private landowner. He has around a quarter of a million acres of land on his Buccleuch estates. Euan travelled to Dumfries and Galloway to meet the 10th Duke to seek his reaction to the Government’s land reform plans.

Sarah travels across the North sea to find out about the highly regulated system of Land ownership that exists in Norway. The Norwegians restrict not only who can own land but how much land can be in the possession of an individual.
