Stories

George Parsonage

The Glasgow Humane Society is the oldest practical life saving organisation in the UK, possibly in the world. Since 1790 the charitable organisation has been dedicated to saving lives on the River Clyde. George Parsonage, like his father before him, is the Chief Officer of the society and has spent a lifetime rowing the river, taking part in over 1500 rescues.

He takes presenter Sally Magnusson out in his trusty rowing boat to discuss his life, his work and his faith.

As well as dedicating his life to saving lives on the River Clyde, George Parsonage is also a talented sculptor. He shows Sally around his art collection and metal work sculptures, some in the shape of the cross. We also see the many accolades of his and his father’s work on the river as George reflects on his life and achievements.

Gospel Choir of the Year - Launch

We launch this year’s Gospel Choir Of The Year competition – an annual event that’s a celebration of Gospel music as we look for the nation’s best amateur Gospel Choir. Go to the Songs of Praise website where you’ll find all the details and terms and conditions you need to enter.  You will have until Friday 1st April 2016 to get your entries in.

God’s Gym

The concept for the Pure Wellness gym at Green Pastures Church in Ballymena, Northern Ireland, came about after the Pastor visited the Dream Center in LA, where they had a gym as an outreach project for marginalised people. He brought the idea home to Ballymena.

We meet personal trainer and committed Christian Estelle Wallace and a former heroin addict who found God at the gym.

They’re a non-profit organization, and all money collected from gym membership goes back into the community via Connect Ministries, which are all part of Green Pastures church.
