Stories
40 Acts
Connie Fisher meets residents from Congresbury in Somerset, which has been called Britain鈥檚 kindest village to discover how faith motivates their generosity.听
To mark the 800th anniversary of their historic church, villagers carried out 800 acts of random kindness, including everything from helping fellow residents with their shopping to painting sheds and public benches.
Connie speaks to Rev. Matthew Thomson, who devised the idea, and villagers to explore what part faith plays in driving this campaign of kindness.
Connie also joins a group of teenagers as they wash a neighbour鈥檚 car to learn about the rewards they get from carrying out kind acts and she joins a group of young schoolchildren as they bake a cake as a special surprise for some elderly villagers.
Stop The Traffick
听It鈥檚 estimated that more than twenty thousand people are trafficked into the UK every year by criminals who bind them to a life that they have not chosen and cannot escape from.
Ade Adepitan meets two victims who are trying to rebuild their lives after harrowing experiences with human traffickers.听The two women explain how their faith has helped them survive their ordeal.
听They are now being supported by the Salvation Army which operates a network of Safe Houses for victims of trafficking and which provides support and advice for victims or anyone who needs assistance. They run a 24 hour a day, 7 day a week confidential helpline on 0300 3038151
The women are now getting work experience with Rachel Salway, who runs a business making jewellery and selling ethically-produced products.
Graeme Duffin
Graeme Duffin is the talented guitarist in Scottish 90s chart-toppers Wet, Wet, Wet.
He is known for the beautiful guitar harmonies on songs like Love Is All Around but what is less well known is that he has battled to conquer a stammer since the age of seven.
At one time Graeme struggled to say his own name, but now he has his stammer under control. Graeme reveals how teaching on the McGuire Programme gives him the opportunity to extend his Christian faith into helping fellow stammerers tackle the debilitating condition.听听
