Monster books
It's 200 years since Frankenstein created his monster and enthralled the Victorian public. Mary Shelly's book is聽widely regarded as the first science fiction novel, but it was written at a time when scientists - or natural philosophers as they were known then - really were conducting experiments with electricity and cadavers. So we're using the anniversary to talk about the influence scientific discoveries and innovation had on writing聽at the time. Adam聽is guided by Prof Iwan Morus, and expert in science history who is based at Aberystwyth University. Iwan is part of a team of researchers who were awarded a grant of 拢750,000 last year to study how science fiction writers and readers anticipate the future.聽聽In a similar vein, we'll hear how the works of HG Wells were influenced by Darwin's Theory on Evolution.
