Marooned for Mercy

Marooned for Mercy

In a few weeks, one Portrush man will be testing his survival skills on an offshore island, bringing only a few basic supplies, and eating what he can catch himself! The Skerries lie just off Portrush, and Michael Hassan has decided to try and survive out there for 7 days, on his own, all in the name of charity. He's doing it to raise money for Mercy Ships, and we'll be following his progress on Your Place & Mine. As he prepared for this adventure, Anne MArie went to meet him at Portandoo Harbour in Portrush, looking across to the cluster of islands known as the Skerries.

New Walking Trails

New Walking Trails

County Down is an inspiring and unusual place where there used to be 80 acres of land but now there are 800 acres at Mount Stewart on the Portaferry Road just outside Newtownards on the shores of Strangford Lough. There's a whole network of new walking trails and archaeological wonders officially opened to the public. Anne Marie talks live to Andrew Upton, Coast and Countryside Manager with the National Trust who has been closely involved in all the development. Is a funded garden the size of a football pitch that has been turned into a space for vegetables on the way to Toome. It’s a community project well worth stopping off in… Anne Marie went to meet Una Johnston from TIDAL community group who was a great guide and knows every blade of grass in this place that she helped to transform.
