Parenting Secrets

Anne Robinson delves into different areas of contemporary British life. She tackles parenting, looking at some of the radically different approaches available.

Anne is no stranger to the struggles of being a parent as she revealed in her autobiography, Memoirs of an Unfit Mother. In this first episode, Anne enters the lives and homes of British families to find out about the rights and wrongs of 21st-century parenting.

There has never been so much choice, advice and criticism on the way we parent, so Anne sets out to get under the skin of some of the radically different approaches - from an attachment mother who breastfeeds her toddlers and home schools her children to a career mum who misses out on some of the most significant moments in her children's lives, from a single dad who's tried everything to discipline his kids to a strict traditional father whose children wouldn't dream of rocking the boat. Anne asks them all the uncomfortable question 'Are you a good parent?'

Anne also asks two sets of parents to experience each others' very different approaches to education. The Blackmans pack their children's days with afterschool clubs and activities designed to get them ahead in life, whereas the Hills believe in an unstructured approach that favours forest skills over literacy.
