Hull - Part One
Aled Jones visits Hull, UK City of Culture 2017, to find out聽what that means for the people there. The Reverend Neal Barnes talks about Holy Trinity Church becoming a Minster, Kofi Smiles, winner of the 鈥樎槎构偻滓橙肟� Face of Hull 2017鈥� competition, shows Aled the latest structure to hit Hull town centre, 鈥楾he Blade鈥�, and we meet one local 鈥榗elebrity鈥�, Jean 鈥榯he Bee鈥� Bishop, who at 94 has raised over 拢100,000 for Age UK.
Hull - Part Two
Aled and Kofi visit the home where William Wilberforce was born in 1759. They meet historian John Oldfield from the Wilberforce Institute to hear about Hull鈥檚 most famous son and the incredible campaign he successfully won to abolish the transatlantic slave trade.
Headscarves
In the聽January of 1968, during stormy seas, disaster struck and聽three trawlers from Hull sank within聽three weeks of one another, killing over 50 men. We meet聽two women that were affected by the tragedy. One of them, Yvonne Blenkinsop, helped to change the safety laws for fishermen in Britain forever.
Homeless Church
For Homeless Sunday, the Reverend Kate Bottley visits a church in London that鈥檚 really going the extra mile to help the local homeless people by turning itself into a homeless dormitory seven nights a week.
