Episode 2

Gillian Burke reports from Islay, Martin Hughes-Games explores a hidden aspect of the Gloucestershire countryside, and Michaela Strachan and Chris Packham update us from Sherborne.

Gillian Burke brings the latest from west coast of Scotland, braving the high winds on the southern tip of Islay to explain why this is one of the best places in the UK to see golden eagles.

Martin Hughes-Games is catching up with one of the favourite species from Springwatch - the red kites. Back in June, we saw these magnificent birds in the nest, but now that winter is here, huge flocks come together on Sherborne to roost in the estate's treetops.

Meanwhile, Michaela Strachan and Chris Packham update us on what has been happening over the past 24 hours on our cameras. With badger fights, scent-marking foxes and a mouse literally freezing to avoid being eaten by a barn owl, it has been a busy day for the animals of Sherborne.

Chris and Michaela also bring us reports about their attempts to track down two winter visitors - a gruesome bird called the great grey shrike or the butcher bird, and Britain's largest finch, the hawfinch, who can crack cherry seeds with their impressive bills.

With films about the tiny sanderling, a man in Devon who can watch long-tailed tits fall asleep and the culmination of our Game of Crows epic, it is a packed winter's watching.
