'Understand What Black Is' has been released to mark fifty years since the band formed at an event to commemorate Malcolm X's Birthday.

The Last Poets are often cited as one of the most important influences in early hip hop, and have been sampled by acts including NWA, A Tribe Called Quest and Snoop Dogg.

This latest release, which came out on May 18, 2018, is said to feature the personal journeys of the group's members, and the sounds that have shaped them over the past five decades.
