Episode 8

Two architects compete to win a commission using virtual reality to build an ingenious garden room in Shrewsbury.

Angela Scanlon presents the property makeover series that allows homeowners to see ingenious new plans for their homes in an instant using cutting-edge virtual reality and visual effects.

Truck salesman Mike and urban designer Lisa live in a three-bedroom Victorian terrace in Shrewsbury which Mike bought 20 years ago. But now their son George is ten, what was a spacious home for two has now become a squeeze for a family of three, only made worse by the huge range of conflicting hobbies that compete for space. Lisa is desperate for a calm place to do her yoga, whilst Mike and George play the drums and the guitar respectively. But it is not just music Mike wants to focus on. More than anything he wants a place he can spend quality time with George, building and tinkering with bikes.

The family have realised they cannot accommodate all these activities in their house so are pinning their hopes on building a new structure at the end of the garden. But after five years of indecision of what to build they are no closer to a solution, so they have handed over control to two competing architects, Laura Jane Clark and Robert Jamison.

Robert suggests an extraordinary structure that would give each of them their own separate spaces, but in a way they could never have imagined. Laura, meanwhile, attempts to blend the needs of the whole family with a highly adaptable garden room oriented to capture the morning sun. Mike and Lisa are blown away by each design, but which will they decide to go with?
