Stephen Schwartz interview

Elaine chats to the Wicked, Godspell and Pippin composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz about his illustrious career and the UK premiere of his new musical The Prince of Egypt.

Elaine chats to the internationally-renowned composer & lyricist behind the smash-hit musical phenomenon Wicked - and so many others 鈥� Stephen Schwartz.

He鈥檚 the recipient of 3 Academy Awards, 4 Grammy Awards, a Golden Globe, and a special Tony Award, and, in 1976, at the age of just 28, he had three musicals running simultaneously on Broadway: Pippin, The Magic Show and Godspell.

Stephen has also written the lyrics for a number of successful films, including Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and Enchanted.

And he's about to launch the UK premiere of the new musical adaptation of the 1998 animated movie The Prince of Egypt, for which he wrote all the songs.

Plus, Stephen will perform at the Elton John piano here in Wogan House - he will sing a show tune from his musical The Baker's Wife, and one from his musical Rags which is currently being revived in north London. In addition there will be the first chance to hear two songs from the new West End production of The Prince of Egypt sung by principal cast members Luke Brady and Christine Allado.
