Holocaust Remembrance and Chinese New Year
A new memoir from a survivor marks the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz and Kate and Jason celebrate Chinese New Year and the Year of the Rat.
This year marks the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. It was the largest of the German Nazi concentration camps, where over 1 million people lost their lives during World War II. Eddy De Wind was a Jewish Dutch doctor sent to the camp. As the Germans fled when the Red Army approached to liberate Auschwitz, Eddy stayed behind and, whilst caring for the sick, wrote about how hope and even love had survived in hell. Ahead of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, Melcher De Wind tells Kate his father's story and why his Dad wanted to the world to know about what happened at Auschwitz.
This weekend ushers in the Chinese New Year. Kate and Jason find out about how the Chinese community in Manchester are celebrating and they get creative with artist Joey Yu, trying to make a paper dragon!
And the UN's Patron's of the Ocean's Lewis Pugh is a man who doesn't fear the cold. Kate and Jason find out why he's just swam in freezing conditions across a supraglacial lake in Antarctica.
