Nikolaj Znaider's Elgar violin concerto centenary tour

The Hall茅 conducted by Sir Mark Elder with music by Elgar - his Violin Concerto and Vaughan Williams's A London Symphony. A concert from the Bridgewater Hall in 2010.

Presented by Martin Handley.

Sir Mark Elder conducts the Hall茅 in a programme including two pieces at the very heart of British 20th-century music: Vaughan Williams's 'A London Symphony' - his own personal view of the English capital and its inhabitants, and Elgar's Violin Concerto - performed almost exactly a hundred years after its premiere by Danish virtuoso Nikolaj Szeps-Znaider who plays the very violin, a 1741 Guarnieri del Gesu, used on that occasion by Fritz Kreisler. Recorded at the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester in 2010.

The Halle has selected this concert as among their favourites for a repeat broadcast during the current pandemic crisis.
