Episode 1
A look at the slave trade in black Africans from the 7th to the 20th century. Malairt nan tr脿illean dubha Afraganach eadar an 7mh 's an 20mh linn.
Between the 7th and 20th centuries, some 25 to 40 million people were reduced to slavery. This persistent and widespread enslavement process is exceptional for the sheer geographic scale involved - the Asian, Atlantic and African trade systems brought about a huge industry in human commerce - and for the ideological, legal and religious practices which served to justify it.
How was it possible to enslave almost 40 million people over nearly 13 centuries? How was it possible to accept the fact that people were reduced to the state of simple merchandise, to be bought, sold, exchanged or bequeathed like common goods and chattels? It is time to present a global investigation into what remains the most comprehensive exercise in dehumanisation ever orchestrated: the slave trade in black Africans from the 7th to the 20th century.
Eadar an 7mh 's an 20mh linn, chaidh eadar 25 is 40 millean neach an d猫anamh nan tr脿illean. Tha am pr貌iseas tr脿illeachd bitheanta seo iongantach ri linn meud an raoin saoghail san do thachair e, na siostaman malairt ann an 脌isia, a' Chuan Shiar agus Afraga a chruthaich gn矛omhachas reic dhaonna, agus airson na cleachdaidhean smuain, lagha is cr脿bhachd a bhathar a' cleachdadh airson seo fh矛rinneachadh.
Ciamar a ghabhadh 40 millean neach a chur am bruid ann an 13 linn? Ciamar a b' urrainn gabhail ri bhith a' d猫anamh daoine nam bathar, a bh' air an reic 's an ceannach, air an toirt seachad neo air am f脿gail mar dh矛leab coltach ri maoin is st貌ras 脿bhaisteach? Tha an t-脿m ann rannsachadh saoghalta fhoillseachadh mun chleachdadh di-dhaonnachaidh a bu mhotha a chaidh a-riamh a chur an c猫ill: malairt nan tr脿illean dubha Afraganach eadar an 7mh 's an 20mh linn.
