Max Whitlock and the GB squad hope to get on the podium in the men’s team gymnastics, while Katie Ledecky and Britain’s Freya Anderson will be competing in the pool.

Britain finished an agonising fourth in the men’s team gymnastics in Rio but will need to be at the top of their game to overhaul the likes of Russia, China and Japan in Tokyo.

The women’s 1500m freestyle is a new race at this year’s Olympics, and as the longest race in the pool, it will be a real test of endurance – but no-one will be better suited to it than Ledecky, who is the world record-holder. Meanwhile, Anderson won 200m freestyle at this year’s European Championships and is a rising star in British swimming – but the event looks to have one of the most competitive fields in Tokyo.
