Assisted dying has long been an issue of discussion in Scotland, especially since it was brought to parliament’s attention through the late Margo MacDonald’s campaigning. Suffering from Parkinson’s disease, she pushed for legislation allowing terminally ill people to have assistance in dying. Margo died from her illness before seeing her final campaign defeated, but others have since lead the campaign in Scotland. This summer, Liam MacArthur MSP published his consultation on assisted dying, which, if passed, would allow terminally ill adults to have assistance to end their lives. The consultation for this bill closes towards the end of the year.

On this week’s episode of ·¡Ã²°ù±è²¹, Andrew MacKinnon researches the highly-divisive topic, and speaks to those on both sides of the argument. We hear from campagin groups who stand steadfastly against any change in the law, along with organisations who feel the time is right to pass new assisted dying legislation. We also hear from Spain, which is the latest country to pass a law on assisted dying, where we hear directly from someone going through the process.
