Northern Ireland Mains and Dessert
The remaining chefs from Northern Ireland compete over dishes inspired by British broadcasting, including celebrations of the Apollo 11 moon landing and Eurovision.
The three chefs are halfway through their heat, and the pressure is mounting. Once again, they each serve their unique interpretations of the brief celebrating 100 years of British broadcasting.
For mains, one chef is taking inspiration from Game of Thrones in a medieval Winterfell feast, another is paying homage to the Eurovision Song Contest in an eclectic taco and BBQ beef dish, and there’s a celebration of the Apollo 11 moon landing and a sophisticated take on one of the astronauts’ first meals.
Meanwhile, for dessert, there’s a celebration of comedy series Derry Girls in the form of a sherry-laced trifle with roasted vanilla gelato and a chocolate moelleux, a magical sesame- and cherry-flavoured mushroom, which is an ode to children’s series Sesame Tree, Northern Ireland’s version of Sesame Street, and a layered gingerbread, barbecued pineapple and coconut parfait, inspired by the launch of satellite television in 1989. Which chef will get the plaudits, and who will go home?
Only two will proceed to cook for the judges and have a chance to represent Northern Ireland at the regional finals.
