A' Tuigsinn An Uisge/Understanding Rain

Anne Lundon hears about acid rain, first identified after the Industrial Revolution.

Tha buaidh air a bhith aig uisge air cultaran agus traidiseanan bho riamh. Bidh luchd-saidheans ga rannsachadh, bidh coimhearsnachdan ag ùrnaigh air a shon, agus bidh riaghaltasan a’ feuchainn ri smachd a ghabhail air.

Ach dè th’ ann an uisge agus carson a tha e nas cudromaiche a-nis na bha e a-riamh?
Tha Anne Lundon a’ lìbhrigeadh an t-sreath ùr, fiosrachail seo a’ rannsachadh an t-saidheans agus na sgeulachdan air cùlaibh an nì a tha a’ beathachadh dhaoine.

Anns a’ phrògram seo, tha sinn a’ tadhal air Uamhan na Stuaidh Marbhail. Tha fiosrachadh ri lorg mun ghnàth-shìde thràth anns an àrainneachd seo, air an tug an t-uisge buaidh mhòr, agus a tha trì cheud ’s ceathrad millean bliadhna a dh’ aois.

Bidh Anne a’ cluinntinn mu uisge searbhagach a chaidh aithneachadh an dèidh An Tionndadh Gnìomhachais. Agus bidh i a’ tadhal air làrach rannsachaidh faisg air Dùn Èideann, far am bi luchd-saidheans a’ cumail sùil air truailleadh Nitrogen san uisge againn san là an-diugh.

Anns na ceathradan, bhiotar a’ sìolachadh nan sgòthan gus cumhachd dhroch stoirmean a lùghdachadh agus an uairsin ann am miseanan dìomhair an airm aig àm Cogadh Bhietnam.
Tha Anne a’ siubhal gu Abu Dhabi far am bi i a’ coinneachadh ris an fheadhainn a tha air thoiseach air chàich ann a bhith a’ cruthachadh uisge san là an-diugh.

Rain has influenced our cultures and traditions since time began. Scientists study it, communities pray for it and governments try to control it. But what is rain and why is it more important now than ever? Anne Lundon presents this revealing series exploring the science and stories behind this life-giving force.

We descend into Ireland’s Marble Arch Caves, a 340 million-year-old environment shaped by rain, which has clues to our early climate. Anne hears about acid rain, first identified after the Industrial Revolution, and visits a research site near Edinburgh where scientists monitor nitrogen pollution in our rain today.

Cloud-seeding was used in the 1940s in attempts to reduce the power of hurricanes and later in top secret US military missions during the Vietnam War. Anne travels to Abu Dhabi where she meets some of those at the forefront of the technique today - literally making rain.
