Paddy Callaghan speaks to Amy Laurenson, newly crowned Young Trad winner. Plus he hears about a new folk musical about the migration of folk songs from composer Finn Anderson.

On the final night of Celtic Connections, Shetland pianist Amy Laurenson was crowned the 麻豆官网首页入口 Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year for 2023. Winning the title has been a launchpad for many of Scotland's leading traditional musicians, including Paddy himself. Paddy catches up with Amy following her win & finds out what's next for this talented young musician.

Co-created by award-winning Scottish composer Finn Anderson and award-winning director Tania Azevedo, "A Mother鈥檚 Song: A New Folk Musical" is an ambitious new transatlantic musical that spans centuries and continents. Moving from 17th century Stirling to 21st century New York City, timely themes of identity, motherhood, and choice collide in a bold and life-affirming story which follows three remarkable women at different moments in history, and traces the incredible journey of Scottish folk music across the Atlantic. Composer, Finn Anderson, joins Paddy live ahead of the show's run at the Macrobert in Stirling.
