Tom Service is joined by musicologist and Oxford University Professor Laura Tunbridge, to talk about Schumann's Das Paradies und die Peri.

Sir Simon Rattle and the London Symphony Orchestra and Chorus present the first ever complete performance at the Proms of Schumann鈥檚 Das Paradies und die Peri (鈥楶aradise and the Peri鈥�). Part oratorio and part opera, a choral and orchestral cycle that seems to unfold in continuous song, the work tells the story of a Peri 鈥� child of a fallen angel and a mortal 鈥� who makes a sequence of offerings to the guardians of Paradise in an attempt to gain entry. Lucy Crowe leads an exciting international cast.
