A founding member of era-defining Manchester band, The Smiths, Johnny Marr is widely regarded as one of the greatest guitarists鈥痑nd songwriters鈥痮f his generation, with a unique style that has shaped modern music. Johnny is also known for his鈥痺idely acclaimed鈥痵olo鈥痑lbums鈥痵panning the last decade鈥痠ncluding The Messenger,鈥疨layland, Call鈥痶he Comet and Fever Dreams Pts 1-4. His鈥痠nstantly recognisable鈥痯laying can also be heard on records by Electronic, Talking Heads, Modest Mouse,鈥疶he Cribs, The Pretenders, Pet Shop Boys, Blondie and many more.

6 Music's Artist In Residence is a journey into the musical soul of an artist, based around a theme or mood. Each episode of Marr鈥檚 series sees him explore songs that have shaped specific periods of his life. Episodes include鈥疘nfluencers,鈥痺here Marr explores the artists who informed his own playing, and鈥疦orth x North West, in which he recalls his time living in Portland, Oregon. Throughout the series, he鈥檒l also take a deep dive into the inspiration behind various The Smiths riffs, demonstrate his deep love of Chic and share advice for anyone about how to play鈥痶he鈥痝uitar.
