Andy Serkis and Louisa Harland

Actors Andy Serkis and Louisa Harland join Lauren in the studio to talk about their performances in social satire Ulster American.

Andy Serkis and Louisa Harland join Lauren to discuss their performances in social satire Ulster American at West London's Riverside Studios. The play, written by David Ireland and first published in 2018, sees an Oscar-winning American actor (played by Woody Harrelson), an English director (Andy Serkis) and a Northern Irish playwright (Louisa Harland) come together to rehearse a new play that is set to transform the careers of everyone involved - however, it turns out that they are not on the same page. The play is described as an 'explosive pitch black-comedy' where nothing is off limits - including power dynamics, cultural identity and the perils of being a woman in the entertainment industry.

Andy Serkis is widely known for his role as Gollum in the Oscar-winning Lord of the Rings trilogy, as well as starring in the Planet of the Apes trilogy. Recently he played the villain in Luther: The Fallen Sun opposite Idris Elba and Cynthia Erivo, and took on the role of Alfred in The Batman starring Robert Pattinson.

Louisa Harland played the much-loved character Orla McCool in Derry Girls, which wrapped in 2022 to widespread critical acclaim. Amongst an impressive list of theatre credits, she also appeared in the Irish TV drama Love/Hate, and appeared in Woody Harrelson's 2017 comedy-drama Lost In London. Andy and Louisa star alongside Woody Harrelson who returns to the London stage for the first time in almost 20 years.

Also on the show, we will be celebrating someone or something significant with a specially-dedicated 6 Music Salutes mix, and we'll be getting ready for our Christmas Party on Friday with the launch of the People's Sleighlist.
