Newbury 25

Caroline Hawley gets behind the wheel of an antique automobile while Raj Bisram and Stephanie Connell try to steer their teams to victory.

While the red and blue teams hope to drive up profits by bargain-hunting in Newbury, Caroline Hawley visits a museum in Basingstoke that houses an impressive collection of Thornycroft vehicles.

The earliest item in the collection is a steam wagon, a forerunner of the company’s first motor car, which was built in 1903. From the driver’s seat of this antique automobile, Caroline is amazed to learn that it cost £400 to make – the equivalent of ten years’ wages for the ordinary worker!

It’s full throttle over at the antiques fair with our teams, retired firefighters Steve and Ken and best friends Tony and David. Stephanie Connell has her work cut out with the blue as she tries to cater for Steve’s love of ‘Asian and sparkly things’ and Ken’s love of ‘rusty metal’.

Meanwhile, Raj Bisram and his reds are drawn to some quirky collectibles, including an Indian lunch box and an old shop till. Which items will they take to auction to be sold by auctioneer Thomas Forrester?
