Jess Gillam with... Neil Tennant

Jess swaps favourite music with singer-songwriter and co-founder of Pet Shop Boys, Neil Tennant.

Jess swaps favourite music with singer-songwriter and co-founder of Pet Shop Boys, Neil Tennant.

Pet Shop Boys have sold over 100million pop records, but Neil also has a lifelong love of classical music, he played the cello as a child and grew up around church music, and he tells Jess how this influenced Pet Shop Boys songs - whether that's pure vocal lines of Hildegard von Bingen or the dense harmony of Shostakovich.

He brings with him music by Hildegard, a cantata by JS Bach, Lotte Lenya singing about September and a classic Miles Davis recording. While Jess has a classic Otis Redding cover, Shostakovich's Fifth symphony and a gorgeous slow movement by Prokofiev.
