Jeanette Kwakye and JJ Chalmers guide you through the second morning’s action, starting with mum-of-three Helen Glover beginning her quest for a third Olympic rowing gold medal.

Glover finished fourth in the women’s pair three years ago in Tokyo, only months after coming out of retirement – ‘a lockdown project that’s gone too far,’ as she put it. The Cornishwoman is now part of a strong-looking crew in the four, who will expect to ease into the next round.

Swimming heats include British 200m freestyle champion Matt Richards and six-time Olympic medallist Duncan Scott, while the 400m individual medley features French star Leon Marchand, the reigning double world champion and face of the Paris Games.

It’s also the start of qualifying in women’s artistic gymnastics, and in equestrian, the eventing competition continues with the cross-country phase.
