The Secret Painter, and the 144th Annual Exhibition of the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour
Writer Joe Tucker on his book The Secret Painter, which tells the extraordinary story of his seemingly ordinary Uncle Eric.
Script-writer and producer Joe Tucker discusses his book The Secret Painter. It's a life-affirming memoir telling the extraordinary story of his seemingly ordinary Uncle Eric. Eric lived most of his life with his parents in a small terraced house in Warrington. He was a former boxer and he loved a daily trip to the betting shop. But he was also a self-taught painter; it was a hobby, he never exhibited- and he almost never talked about his work. It was only when he died at the age of 86 in 2018, that his family found out his artwork had a story of its own.
Len is also joined by artist Anthea Gage, President of the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour, the RSW, whose Annual Exhibition opens in Edinburgh on Saturday.
And we hear from the patients of the renal dialysis unit in the New Victoria Hospital Glasgow who discuss their artwork, currently on display in an exhibition called Imaginary Journeys.
