with Zara Janjua

The influence of religion on Bob Dylan's music, singer Ross Wilson shares his spiritual life, and the influential of figures like Elon Musk in shaping political narratives.

Former editor of New Scientist, Sumit Paul-Choudhury, joins Zara Janjua to discuss how optimism can improve mental health, career success and help tackle global challenges. All of which he explores in his new book, The Bright Side: Why Optimists Have the Power to Change the World.

With the release of the new Bob Dylan biopic, A Complete Unknown, Zara and journalist Sean Smith delve into the singer鈥檚 spiritual journey鈥攆rom his roots in Judaism to his conversion to Christianity. They examine how this transformation influenced his acclaimed music.

This week鈥檚 Spiritual Life guest is Ross Wilson, lead singer of Blue Rose Code. Ross opens up about his battle with addiction, his journey into music, fatherhood, and the discovery of his Christian faith.

Between 9 and 10am, Zara is joined by Rupa Mooker, an employment lawyer and member of the Sikh community, Philip Blackledge, Rector of Holy Trinity Melrose, and Talat Yaqoob, a social researcher and equalities campaigner.

They look at the role of external forces in shaping political narratives, in light of Elon Musk's controversial comments about Jess Phillips and Sir Keir Starmer regarding the child sexual abuse and grooming gangs inquiry.

They also tackle the question: to what extent is 'flaking' justified? Is cancelling plans at the last minute ever acceptable for protecting mental health, or is it simply selfish?

And they discuss the Netflix series You Can鈥檛 Ask That, where people from various marginalized groups are asked a set of questions from viewers. Can asking questions openly break down barriers and foster mutual understanding, or does it place an unfair burden on individuals with protected characteristics to educate others?
