Mohsin Hamid is a Pakistani author best known for his novel The Reluctant Fundamentalist (2007) which saw him shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize and has been adapted into a film to be released in May 2013. His three distinctly different novels all offer a vision of Pakistani modernity that challenges the prevailing stereotype of the country since 9/11. His latest book How to Get Rich in Rising Asia (2013) explores globalisation and capitalism in a caricature of the self-help genre. He tells Razia Iqbal why he is passionate about the role of fiction in culture. Why does he believe the relationship between the reader and writer is so powerful?
