Oxfam

Episode 3 of 5

How well do today's CEOs know their own businesses? CEO of Oxfam Mark Goldring explores the front line of his organisation to see how to increase donations.

How well do today's CEOs know their own businesses? Mark Goldring has only been CEO of Oxfam for two months but already the challenge facing him is all too clear. In the wake of a global recession and increased competition for donations, last year the charity's income fell by nearly eighteen million pounds. If Mark can't help turn things around, Oxfam may have to reign back on its international development projects that help those most in need around the world.
Mark is escaping the boardroom to explore the front line of his organisation to see if there are any lessons to be learned in how to stem the decline and help increase donations. It's a journey that takes him from a charity shop in the north of England to a market in deepest Zambia. Will Mark discover that his staff have the answers? Or will he find that charity still begins, and ends, at home?
