Talking Movies reports from Berlin looking at the changes that have taken place in German cinema since the fall of the Berlin Wall in November 1989. The programme examines the different types of German films that emerged in the wake of reunification as well as visiting the Babelsberg Studio which is now a major centre of production. There is a report on some classic post-reunification films such as Good Bye Lenin! and the emergence of the Berlin School of Filmmaking. And we meet some of the directors from the GDR who continued making films at the time the Berlin Wall fell finding they had much more creative freedom to critique the state. Plus, we hear from several young Berlin (and German) filmmakers today about how their concerns and preoccupations compare with those of their counterparts 25 years ago.
