Britain used to known as the workshop of the world - but where now is best place on the planet for manufacturers? And what are the technologies that are transforming their factorie

Modern manufacturing is at a crossroads. China, which for so long has been the workshop of the world, is no longer as cheap or as convenient as it once was. So big companies are now looking to new technologies and new locations for their factories. And, as concerns about the costs and environmental impacts of shipping grow, they're increasingly choosing to make their goods as close as possible to where they want to sell them. But what does this mean for the workers of the future and which countries are likely to become the future industrial hubs? That's what Tanya Beckett will be discussing with her guests in London who include: Robert MacLeod, the Chief Executive of Johnson Matthey, who make catalysts and other products from precious metals like platinum: Amir Allahverdi, Group Director of Operations at Meggitt, which works in the aerospace and automotive industries: and Anthony Higham, Head of Manufacturing and Supply, at BTG, a specialist pharmaceutical manufacturer.
