This month on Witness: why Britain expelled 90 Soviet diplomats in the 1970s, how an Australian town killed its residents and how one man and his dog rescued the 1966 World Cup.

Rebecca Jones is at the British Library with more extraordinary moments from recent history - starting with a 1970s Cold War spy scandal centred on London. Plus the tragic story of a town in Western Australia where the inhabitants were oblivious to the risks of mining asbestos, the uplifting tale of the Israeli colonel who fought for gay rights in the military, the architect who helped build the USA's tallest skyscraper as part of the rebuilding work after the 9/11 terror attacks, and finally - a World Cup story from 1966 involving a dog, called Pickles.
