Iran: Countdown to Revolution

This film brings together decision makers and witnesses to explain how events unfolded in the countdown to revolution in Iran.

In 1979 hundreds of thousands of Iranians took to the streets demanding change. They brought about a popular revolution that would alter the course of the nation's history. Iran was declared an Islamic Republic under shia cleric Ayatollah Khomeini, ending the rule of the Shah, the self-styled 'King of Kings.' But what was it like in those final days as power changed hands? This film brings together decision makers and witnesses to explain how events unfolded in the countdown to revolution - from the power struggles behind the scenes, the strategic miscalculations, the efforts to control the media and the dramatic moment when the army declared its position.
