The twenty first annual Eurovision Song Contest broadcast from Congresgebouw, The Hague, in the Netherlands. It was another victory for the United Kingdom, their third, with Brotherhood of Man and "Save Your Kisses for Me".It was Greece's turn to make a statement with their song, causing controversy by protesting about the Turkish occupation of northern Cyprus. A year earlier Greece failed to take part in protest over the same matter, and this year Turkey decided to withdraw.Sweden's decision not to take part because it could not meet the financial burden of another win led to a new rule being introduced which meant each participant had to contribute in part to the costs of staging the event.
