The twenty sixth annual Eurovision Song Contest broadcast from RDS Simmonscourt Pavilion in Dublin, Ireland. The United Kingdom were crowned champions for a fourth time with the iconic song "Making Your Mind Up" sung by Bucks Fizz. The performance included one of Eurovision's most memorable dance moves of all time in which the two male singers ripped the skirts off the two female singers. This obviously swayed voters as Germany were beaten into second place by a narrow four vote margin during some of the closest voting in Eurovision history - five countries took the lead at different points during the scoring and before the penultimate vote the United Kingdom, Germany and Switzerland were all joint at the top of the leaderboard. There were some familiar faces on the stage this year including Jean Claude Pascal who returned to perform for Luxembourg twenty years after winning the competition, and Peter, Sue and Marc who made their fourth bid for victory on behalf of Switzerland.Returning to the Eurovision family this year were Israel and Yugoslavia, and it also marked the debut of Cyprus.
