The thirty first annual Eurovision Song Contest broadcast from Grieghallen in Bergen, Norway.Sandra Kim became the youngest ever Eurovision winner, aged thirteen, representing Belgium with the song "J'aime la vie". As of 2010 no one had beaten this record, and never will unless current age restrictions are relaxed. In the lyrics of the song Sandra actually claims to be fifteen, and when it was revealed afterwards that she was actually thirteen second place Switzerland petitioned for her to be disqualified to no avail.Norway's pride at finally winning the event after a series of failures meant a lavish budget for the event which was hosted by folk guitarist Ase Kleveland and attended by Norweigan royalty. The Grieg Hall was turned into an "ice palace" for the show and a diamond encrusted dress was commissioned for the presenter weighing more than one stone (6.8kg).This contest marked Iceland's debut in the competition.
