Alys digs up Lychnis coronaria seedlings from the borders at Greenacre and transplants them into pots so that they can be planted out again for next year.

Method:
When tidying up beds and borders at this time of the year you may well come across seedlings of the plants which flowered earlier in the spring or summer.
Alys has found plenty of grey leaved seedlings (they are easily identified as being similar to their parents) of Lychnis coronaria which are right at the edge of the border.
They could be left where they are to flower next year but, as they are not really in a convenient place, it鈥檚 much better to lift them now, pot them into fresh compost in a small pot and overwinter them to plant out next year.
If the seedlings are in clumps it鈥檚 a good idea to tease them apart with your hands, feeling where they naturally come apart, and pot them up individually.
Water them generously to settle them into their new compost and move them to a quiet corner of the garden or into coldframes.
