Users fear loss of mental health service
Users of a mental health respite centre in Kettering say they'll be left without an important lifeline - if proposals by the county council to scale back the services go ahead.
A spokesperson from Northamptonshire County Council said:
"It is well known that the financial challenges currently being faced by the county council mean that we have to look at everything we do to find savings.
"This includes the Supporting People programme and therefore during the summer we will be embarking on a wide-ranging review of the programme to look at ways in which more sustainable models of support could be developed, with findings and recommendations going to cabinet for decisions later this year.
"No decisions about Supporting People funding have been made yet, including with regards to Meadhurst, and the review will include the opportunity for all people involved to give feedback and comments.
"In the meantime, the council formally notified services that all Supporting People arrangements will end in April 2012. This is because the review potentially means there will be some significant changes in the future and by giving notice on the contracts, it ensures that any changes can be made in 2012/13 as well as ensuring that there is a clear period of transition."
