Tensions in Catholic areas during Maze prison hunger strike

Roisin McAuley reports on the tensions in Catholic areas of Belfast, particularly the Ardoyne and the area of the Oldpark known as "the Bone", at the height of the Maze prison hunger strikes.

She talks to Artie McAlea, a resident of the Ardoyne, about what has caused the increasing tension in that particular community, what people are afraid of and what he thinks will transpire should one of the hunger strikers die in prison.

In light of a meeting of the Ardoyne Local Defence Co-ordinating Committee in the Shamrock Social Club on Wednesday, 29th April 1981, McAuley speaks to Brian McNulty, secretary of the Shamrock club, about the intended purpose of such defence committees and the role of the Provisional IRA in the situation.
