Science Special

In this one-off special Adam Hart-Davis marks significant anniversaries of great British inventors, including Sir Isaac Newton's death.

In this one-off special, Adam Hart-Davis marks the anniversaries of Isaac Newton's death, Albert Einstein's birth and the discovery of Uranus by William and Caroline Herschel. Adam then hops on his mountain bike and travels over to Harrogate, where he tests his own version of an automatic egg-boiler, patented exactly one hundred years ago by a dentist named Dr Gaddes. He also recreates a motion picture projection device, first exhibited at the Royal Institute over one hundred years ago by inventor, Eadweard Muybridge. Adam's last inventive pursuit takes him back to over two hundred years ago, when a combined dining table and foot-warming stove was introduced.
