Stuart Linnell sits in and hears about the 60 families across Northamptonshire who still don't know which primary school their child will be attending when the new school term starts in a few weeks. They include the so-called Jackson 5 - five families from the same road (Jackson Way, hence the nickname) in Kettering who were appealing after their children were refused places at their local primary school.

Also the hundreds of unadopted roads dotted all over Northamptonshire. Unadopted roads mean exposed storm drains, rutted and potholed surfaces and no maintenance or markings. All those issues remain the responsibility of householders or developers until the roads are taken on by the Highways Agency.

Twelve months ago Northamptonshire County Council said it was on the verge of agreeing a policy for dealing with them. A policy which, it said, could become a national blueprint for other highways authorities to follow.

So, why hasn't more headway been made? Tom Percival, in the radio car, asks the questions.
