Ingrid Betancourt

In 2002 the Colombian Presidential candidate Ingrid Betancourt was abducted by FARC guerrillas. She was held captive in the Amazon jungle for six years. During that time she was repeatedly beaten, humiliated and threatened with death. She tried to escape five times, and after one failed attempt in 2005 was chained by her neck to a tree for 24 hours a day.

Ingrid was eventually released in July 2008, when the rebels were tricked into handing her and 14 other hostages over to soldiers masquerading as members of a humanitarian group. She joins Jenni Murray to talk about her ordeal.
