
Universal indicator - acid, alkali or neutral?
Demonstrates the use of universal indicator to test for acids and alkalis and introduces the idea of acidic, alkaline or neutral chemicals. The presenter explains why it is important to know if household substances are acidic, alkaline, or neutral. The use of universal indicator paper, which changes colour in the presence of acids and alkalis, is demonstrated. Cola, which is acidic, turns the paper red, whereas bleach, which is alkaline, turns the paper blue.
