Dyslexia - Sophie's story

Sophie is a nine year old girl who suffers from dyslexia and struggles with reading and spelling. She talks about how she feels about dyslexia. She knows that there are some things she cannot do, so she finds ways to do them differently. She has developed interesting ways to identify letters that look similar: she uses touch and feel to help her tell which letter is which. Sophie talks about not just the things she finds difficult, but the things she enjoys and is good at. The dyslexia does not affect her whole life but only parts of it and she is able to enjoy practical and physical things without problems. Friendship is a key area and Sophie's friends know her strengths. They do not notice her dyslexia in many cases. They help and support her, making her feel confident. First broadcast in the Learning Zone on Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú2 in March 2012 as part of the programme ‘Same but Different’.
