Does friction only exist between solids?

Stella conducts a friction experiment by dropping identically-shaped balls of modelling clay into water and silicon oil; with the different liquids exerting different frictional forces. She then drops pieces of modelling clay, which have been moulded into a variety of shapes, into the silicon oil to see if the shape of an object affects the frictional force.
