Computer science as a tool for merging the worlds of reality and make believe
Interviews with DNEG professionals, combined with video clips from films they have worked on, help to focus on how programmers utilise the hardware and programming capabilities of computers to model the world around us for visual effects in films. An explanation is also provided of the processes that programmers take in breaking down observations of the real world into the rules of nature, for example, physics and chemistry. They demonstrate how they use this understanding to programme these rules to develop accurate simulations, as well as paying careful consideration to the balance needed between stylised creativity and nature.
