Clive Ferguson looks at the history of the Irish National Liberation Army, thought to be the organisation behind the bombing of the Droppin' Well pub in Ballykelly.

Born of a split in the old Official IRA in the mid-1970s, they are a smaller group than the Provisional IRA who have adopted a different approach in terms of both tactics and politics.

They first grabbed the headlines in Great Britain with the murder of Conservative MP Airey Neave in 1979 and three INLA members died in 1981 during the Maze prison hunger strikes. While few in numbers, they have proved to be lethal – regarded even by the Provisional IRA as reckless.
