Benn becomes the figurehead of the Labour left wing
Increasingly disillusioned by the centrist policies of the Labour Party, Benn's politics became increasingly left wing. Between the mid-1970s and the early 1980s, Benn emerged as the leader of the Labour left and the foremost British socialist.
