Benn's long career as an MP
Benn entered the Commons in 1950 as a fresh-faced 25 year old and was soon forced to change the law to allow him to renounce an inherited peerage. A cabinet minister in Harold Wilson's governments, and later a stalwart socialist, Benn always maintained strong commitment to the people who elected him.
